Our History
First Baptist Church of Hutchinson held it’s first meeting in 1872 and she has been seeking the Lord’s direction since. It’s first building was located at 1st and Maple St. in 1889 and remained there until 1925, when they purchased plots of land at 8th and Main in Hutchinson. It was in 1926 that the building at 8th and Main was open for services. Since that time, the church has gone through much change, diversity and celebration. This June the church celebrated 140 years of service in the Hutchinson community. Since it’s founding days, FBC has been instrumental in church planting in the community. In 1922 Berean Baptist Church (was called “Careyville Mission) was started by some of FBC’s members. In 1924 Southwest Baptist Church (was called “The Americanization Center for Mexican Immigrants”) was started. In the early 60’s a Steering Committee of FBC decided to send some of their members to begin a church in the northern section of town. In 1966 Countryside Baptist Church was started and is still ministering today. First Baptist of Hutchinson has a rich history of striving to spread the Gospel through very missional means!
Today, First Baptist is a congregation that strives to teach the truth of God’s Word without compromise! We are working diligently to ensure that the teaching that takes place at First Baptist in every facet of ministry is teaching that is true to the Gospel and is teaching that honors and glorifies God. We are dedicated to ministering to our local community, but first and foremost we recognize that we are first responsible to ensure that what is taught in First Baptist Church (Sunday School, Bible Study, Youth Group, Wisebuilders Ministry, Sunday Morning Service) is true to God’s Word.
